Malaysian Muay Thai fighter Azwan Che Wil’s experience of undergoing a training stint with the legendary  Buakaw Benchamek will prove invaluable as he prepares to face Philippines’ champion Ryan Jakiri in the Asia Fighting Championship (AFC) on  21st September at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.

The Kuala Krai-born Azwan said that the opportunity to train with Buakaw fuelled his passion for the sport and also helped him prepare for every fight to this day.

“I trained with Buakaw two years ago when I was competing in a Muay Thai championship in Bangkok. Before the fight, I had the opportunity to train and learn from him. I was starstruck as he is my idol in the sport and I was very fortunate to witness his abilities up close,” said Azwan.

“After a week, I learnt how Buakaw, a legend in the sport, delivered his powerful kicks and lightning punches. It was an amazing experience for me and I hope it will be a key factor for me when I enter the AFC02 ring.”

National Muay Thai boxer, Azwan Che Wil will be making his Asia Fighting Championship (AFC) debut on the 21st September at Axiata Arena.

Azwan will be fighting in the 65kg category and will be hoping for a win in his AFC debut although he realizes he will be up against a tough competitor like Ryan.

“I am really excited because this will be my first time representing my country in this championship (AFC). Even though I will be facing the Philippines’ champion, I am confident of recording a win,” added the 23-year-old Azwan.

“I am relying heavily on the experience I gained while fighting abroad namely in Sweden, Hong Kong and few other countries which I am sure will help me when I enter the ring this time round. Besides that, I am also looking forward to the support and warm welcome from the  fans.”

Several renowned fighters will be hoping to shine in the second edition of the AFC scheduled for 21st September at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KLSC).

Also in action on the night will be four other local fighters, namely Ali Bin Yaakub, Mohd Amirul Ariffin, Izham Red Army and Mohd Fazzatkie Mohd Zaki.
