Angka Tour 2018 ends with a bang

The Angka Tour 2018, organised by Malaysia Extreme Sports Association (MESA) concluded on a positive note on Sunday as an estimated 200 skateboarding enthusiasts gathered at Dataran Merdeka to join in the ‘Skate Parade’.

The tour which began on Friday (23 March) featured international professional skateboarders Arto Saari, Jack Curtin, Davis Torgerson, Margie Didal, Tom Karangelov, and Jasper Dohrs who visited skate parks in the Klang Valley and Ipoh before Sunday’s end-of-tour festivities.

Female professional skateboarder, Margie Didal from the Philippines was also invited for this edition’s Angka Tour.

The purpose of the tour was to provide the necessary exposure for our national skateboarding contingent and simultaneously promote the sport among youths in Malaysia.

General Secretary of MESA, Dato’ Manjit Singh Gill said: “The Angka Tour is just the start. MESA has many more exciting and productive plans in regards to skateboarding and extreme sports in general.

“With the success and support we received throughout this tour, local skateboarding fans can expect more training and development programmes as MESA is always looking for ways to improve our homegrown talent and progress to a higher level although in the near future, the main focus is to prepare for the upcoming Asian Games in Jakarta- Palembang,” added Manjit.

The ‘Skate Parade’, was a joyous affair with amateur skateboarders sharing the spotlight with the international stars and our national athletes as they skated in unity for about one kilometre to Dataran DBKL.

All six professionals and national skaters then showcased their array of skills during a demo session before spending time taking pictures and signing autographs for the eager fans at the venue.

National skateboarder, Zainul Mutaqien Marzuki expressed his gratitude to MESA for its efforts to promote the sport by inviting such high-profile names of the sport to share their knowledge and experience with our national athletes.

“At the moment, all of us in the national camp are excited and enthusiastic about competing in the Asian Games. We are preparing well in terms of training and our diet to stay fit and healthy until the competition,” said Zainul.

“I am sure I speak for all my teammates when I say we will give our best to make Malaysia proud and make a name for ourselves on the world stage of skateboarding. In regards to the Angka Tour, we would like to thank MESA for organising such a fruitful programme which will surely help us develop our abilities,” added the 26-year-old who is from Bintulu, Sarawak.
