Malaysia finish behind Laos

Malaysia finished as the runners-up to hosts Laos on goal difference in a four-nation pre-SEA Games football tournament, which ended in Vientiane on Tuesday.

Malaysia, represented by players from the Harimau Muda (Under-19) and national Under-18 squads under coach Ong Kim Swee, had five points from a win and two draws.

Thailand finished third on four points while Vietnam anchored the table on one point.

In the opening game, Malaysia held Thailand 2-2 before chalking up a 3-1 win over Vietnam and playing Laos to a 1-1 draw.

Six of the players in the team will feature in the tournament proper for Under-23 squads in Laos from Dec 8-19.

They are Ahmad Shakir Ali, K. Gurusamy, Mohd Faizal, Mahali Jasuli, Mohd Muslim and Mohd Fandi Othman.
