09 Jan PMM 2018: Jin Wei Ready to Take Malaysia Women’s Singles to Greater Heights

National shuttler, Goh Jin Wei is ready to embrace the challenge of helping to improve the Malaysia’s women singles starting with the Perodua Malaysia Masters 2018 (PMM2018) presented by Daihatsu which will be held from 16-21 January at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur Sports City.

Jin Wei is looking to gain more valuable experiences when she faces some of the best players from around the world such as Tai Tzu Ying (World No.1), Akane Yamaguchi (World No.2) and P.V. Sindhu (World No.3) and further enhance her reputation at the international stage.

The 18-year old does not fear anyone in the main draw despite the PMM2018 line-up being stronger than previous years, claiming that it is time for her to come out of age and perform at the highest level.

“I will take it one game at a time, starting first with the qualification match. There are many top players participating this year but I will just play my heart out no matter who I face. I think that’s the best way to go about it,” said Jin Wei when met during the SS Purple League 2017/18.

“I don’t always get to meet the top players so I am relishing the challenge. For me, every match is still a learning process but I am looking forward to getting some favourable results against them on home soil,” added the World No. 50.

Jin Wei will face 24-year old Danish international Mette Poulsen, ranked one place above her in the world. She will then face Rio Olympic winner, Carolina Marin in the first round of the PMM2018 if she secures qualification.

The draw has not been too kind for Jin Wei as she is in the same bracket as defending champions Saina Nehwal, World No. 6 Sung Ji Hyun and World No. 14 Aya Ohori.

“I think myself and my other women’s singles teammates – Soniia Cheah, Lee Ying Ying, Ho Yen Mei and Kisona Selvaduray will just have to go out there and give a good account of ourselves. We have our own qualities as well and we will ready for any opponents that come our way,” said Jin Wei.

A total grand prize of US$350,000 worth of cash awaits the winners of the PMM2018 which was upgraded to a Grade 2 Level 4 BWF World Tour (Super Series) status as of this year.
