Formidable Line-up Confirmed for Malaysia Masters 2018

A host of big named shuttlers have confirmed their participation for the Perodua Malaysia Masters 2018 presented by Daihatsu which will be held from 16-21 January at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur Sports City.

Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Olympic winners Lin Dan, Chen Long, Zhang Nan (China), Carolina Marin (Spain) and World No. 1s Viktor Axelsen (Denmark), Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei), Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan (China) are among those who have registered to play in this year’s edition.

The Perodua Malaysia Masters has been upgraded to a Grade 2 Level 4 BWF World Tour (Super Series) status as of 2018 and that has attracted many world-class badminton players’ participation.

Other international stars that will be involved are Son Wan Ho (South Korea), Chou Tien Chen (Chinese Taipei), Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen, Christinna Pedersen-Kamilla Rytter Juhl (Denmark), Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen, Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping (China), Ayaka Takahashi-Misaki Matsumoto, Akane Yamaguchi (Japan), P.V. Sindhu, (India) and Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand).

Last year’s winners, Angus Ng Ka Long (men’s singles), Saina Nehwal (women’s singles), Hardianto-Berry Angriawan (men’s doubles) have also penned their returns to defend their respective titles.

Meanwhile, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei, last edition’s mixed doubles winners, Lai Pei Jing-Tan Kian Meng, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai, Lee Zii Jia will be among a host of national players who will be leading the charge for Malaysia while Goh Jin Wei, Lim Chi Wing, Soong Joo Ven Liew Daren, Lee Ying Ying, Ho Yen Mei and several others will have to go through an extra qualifying round to secure a spot in the tournament.

The tournament will feature the long-awaited return of national shuttlers, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying as a mixed doubles pair after Goh’s long injury layoff.

“It is a great sign to see the Perodua Masters Malaysia so well-received by top players such as Axelsen, Lin Dan, Chen Long, Tai Tzu Ying and others. This marks the first time majority of the top 10 ranked players in the world competing against each other in this tournament’s history,” said the Perodua Malaysia Masters 2018 Organizing Committee Chairman, Datuk Ng Chin Chai.

“Their inclusion will definitely impact the tournament, making it more exciting and competitive. It will also be beneficial for our players to play against other top shuttlers in our backyard. I too hope that the fans will be backing our national players all the way during the duration of the tournament,” added Ng.

Winners of the Perodua Malaysia Masters will receive a total grand prize of US$350,000 worth of cash.
Tickets will go on sale starting this Friday and will be priced from RM18 to RM75 ranging from three different categories (upper, lower, premium) for adults while tickets for children aged 4 to 18 years old will enjoy 50% off adult prices right up till the quarter final stage.
