Bandar Maharani Badminton Club got their Purple League Junior (PLJ) 2018 season back on track when they overcome a spirited fightback from Bukit Cheras Badminton Club to triumph 10-9 on Match Day 2 held at the Desa Petaling Sports Complex today.

Bandar Maharani BC who finished third last year, were held to a surprise 10-10 draw by Kepong Badminton Club yesterday, bounced back to beat newly promoted side, Bukit Cheras BC. Incidentally, Bandar Maharani also gained promotion from Division Two in 2016.

Men’s singles, Lim Chong King got the ball rolling when he defeated Low Eu Cong, 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-10) in 26 mins.  Joanne Ng May Yin-Toh Ee Wei then managed to steal two points for Bandar Maharani in a 2-3 (5-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7, 10-11) loss to Ajima Tongchai-Yamolphat Thanesanukul from Thailand in the girl’s doubles.

Then it was time for the mixed doubles pair, Lim Jing Ning-Yap Roy King to assert supremacy for Bandar Maharani with a thumping 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-6) victory over Shaun Wong Yau Xiang-Ting Ee Chin which was over in 16 mins.

Bandar Maharani conceded the two last ties but still managed to hang on with Thai lass, Piramon Chamnaktan succumbing to Syalsabila Vahira Irmawan 2-3 (11-5 11-9 2-11 9-11 10-11) in the girl’s singles and Chua Yue Chern-Lim Tze Jian defeating Lee Yi Bo-Shyu Hao Zhe 3-0 (11-8, 11-10, 11-9) in 25 mins.

“Just like last year, our aim is to finish in the top 3 again. It’s still early days yet, the race is still open,” said coach, Yap Kim Heng.

“In the fourth game, our girl (Piramon) should have won but she suffered from hamstring. For the fifth game, I put out my reserve pair and they still performed well despite losing.

“We have player out injured, Muhd Fazrik Razif but we still have other singles players to take over his place,” added Kim Heng, brother of doubles specialist, Yap Kim Hock.

Bandar Maharani couldn’t follow up their good performance later in the evening after being trounced 3-12 by high flying, Ampang Jaya Badminton Club. It was the second consecutive victory by the runners up last season after recording an emphatic 14-8 victory over Puchong United Badminton Club on Match Day 1 to put them on the ascendancy of the fledgling PLJ 2018.

Defending champions, Cheras Badminton Club suffered a setback in their quest of retaining the title when they opened their account with an 8-9 loss to Puchong United Badminton Club.
