Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying complete a trio of mixed doubles pairs in the quarterfinals of the Perodua Malaysia Masters 2018 (PMM2018) presented by Daihatsu.

Peng Soon and Liu Ying ousted Danish opponents – Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen 21-18 13-21 21-18 during their PMM2018 Round 2 match at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur Sports City today.

“I was a little nervous even though we have the edge over them (Pedersen and Christiansen). And that made it an even tighter affair than it should be. Playing against them was a real test for us but winning it gave us more confident going into the next round,” said Peng Soon.

“We will be up against another strong pair tomorrow and will be hoping to be more composed then,” he added.
“I expected it to be a tight match for us. I am not fully confident in myself yet as this is only my second tournament having returned from injury. But we found our rhythm in the match just now and I hope we can further improve on it,” added his partner, Liu Ying.

The Rio Olympic silver medallists will face second seeds, Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong in the last eight tomorrow while Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing will take on fellow teammates Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai.

But there was despair in the men’s singles and women’s doubles camp as their journeys ended in the second round.
First choice national women’s doubles, Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei were the first to be eliminated as the pair tasted defeat at the hands of Chinese internationals, Huang Dongping and Li Wenmei 14-21 18-21.

Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean were also overpowered by Lee So Hee and Shin Seung Chan of South Korea 18-21 12-21 before Tee Jing Yi and Soong Fie Cho going down to first seeds Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan.

Despite the defeat, national men’s singles head coach Datuk Misbun Sidek is proud of the progress Zii Jia has been making thus far.

“I have been coaching him (Zii Jia) since the SEA Games last year. I can see that he has great potential and showing promise. He did not expect to win the first set just now and got nervous in the second set. But these kind of things come from experience,” said Misbun.
