Angka Tour Continues in Ipoh

Day 2 of the Angka Tour, organized by Malaysian Extreme Sports Association (MESA) made its stop at Mydin Meru, Ipoh today.

The presence of internationally renowned skaters such as Arto Saari, Jack Curtin, Davis Torgerson, Margie Didal, Tom Karangelov, and Jasper Dohrs got the attention of the local fans as they displayed their skills and expertise to entertain the crowd.

The purpose of the tour is to provide the exposure to our national skateboarding contingent, at the same time promote the sport in the country

And the objective was accomplished as about a hundred local skateboarders turned up to meet the pro skaters while also participating in the best tricks contest, which was hugely rewarding with cash prize, skateboard decks, and Angka Tour merchandises up for grabs.

Speaking about the Angka Tour’s stop in Ipoh, General Secretary of MESA, Dato’ Manjit Singh Gill said, “Today’s programme really served its purpose. We saw a lot of people turn up to watch the pros and our country’s very own skaters demonstrate their amazing skills.”

“This tour is a good fit for the skateboarding community and will boost the confidence of our national athlete because they got a chance to skate with the world’s best,” he said.

One of the contestant for the best trick contest, 16-year old Mifzal Aiman Abdullah said “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I really looked forward to it because an event like this is rarely held here. All the obstacles were interesting as well and that allowed me to perform different tricks.”

“I hope there will be more programmes like this in Ipoh in the future. Most importantly with the involvement of the pro skaters, we can observe and learn various skateboarding tricks from them,” said the 16-year old who dreams of representing Malaysia in skateboarding one day. The Angka Tour will conclude tomorrow with its last programme in Kuala Lumpur, the ‘Skate Parade’.
