The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and Malaysia Purple League (MPL) have joined forces in a bid to recapture Malaysia’s badminton greatness on the international front after a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held earlier today at Ruyi & Lyn, Bangsar Shopping Centre.

Recognized as one of the pioneers of entertaining professional badminton leagues in the world today, MPL will be looking to carry on revolutionizing the sport with the continuous support and backing of BAM.

With the huge success of last year’s events namely the Junior Purple League, Junior Champions Challenge and the SS Purple League, badminton fans were treated to exhilarating battles, explosive match-ups and witnessed the emerging of several talented young players.

BAM president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria did not hide his excitement regarding the opportunities and prospects this collaboration can achieve for the betterment of Malaysian badminton. He believes it has great potential.

“I would like to thank MPL’s Board of Directors for their willingness to work with BAM to help Malaysia raise the bar and take badminton to greater heights. The main goal is to aid the sport’s development and compete consistently at the highest level,” said Datuk Seri Norza.

He added: “By collaborating with MPL, I am confident that more initiatives for both parties will arise and, hopefully, pave the way for more opportunities to bridge the gap between BAM and the world’s best badminton nations”.

Meanwhile, MPL Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Jack Koh said: “We at MPL are extremely grateful and honored to have the full backing of BAM as we contribute towards the development of Malaysian badminton. I believe this partnership will put the sport in a brighter light within our nation and eventually on the world stage”.

Dato’ Jack added that collaborative efforts of private parties such as MPL with the likes of BAM will definitely put Malaysian badminton up there with the best of the best for a very long time.

“It is important for private entities with different ideas, influences, and financial backing to step up and lend a hand towards a more sustainable future for Malaysian badminton. Having said that, I would like to thank MPL’s dedicated sponsors namely Senheng, Samsung, Li Ning, Resorts World Genting, Astro, 100Plus and Lazada for always being very supportive,” added Dato’ Jack.

Alongside Datuk Seri Norza and Dato Jack, some of Malaysia’s top badminton players like Goh Jin Wei, Goh Liu Ying, Goh V Shem and Hafiz Hashim were also present at the event to give it some star quality and to witness the signing ceremony together with VIPs, guests and members of the media.

Badminton fans can catch a glimpse of the stars of the future at BAM’s International Junior Open 2017 currently going on in Perlis until September 9. MPL’s Junior Purple League will kick off on September 16 at Sports Arena Puchong.
