FAM Congress: “For the betterment of the national football agenda”

The implementation of corporate governance. Increasing the national talent pool. The chance to work alongside the current leadership in moving forward the national football agenda.

These were the rationales given by three candidates vying for the Football Association Malaysia (FAM) Executive Committee (Exco) position; Dato ‘Sri Shahril Mokhtar, Tuan ACP Zulkefly Yahya and Tuan Abdul Aziz Yeop Jamaludin during the upcoming 57th FAM Congress that will take place on the 13 March 2021.

As a corporate figure with two decades of experience, Dato ‘Sri Shahril has great ambitions to streamline the governance of FAM as he’s willing to implement the experience that he has garnered during his tenure as Deputy President of the Selangor Football Association (FAS).

“With my two decades of corporate experience, 10 years as CEO, I can contribute my thoughts in streamlining the corporate governance at FAM.

“During my tenure with FAS, we have managed to establish our own training center, a more effective Selangor brand marketing system and a more engaged social media management,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tuan ACP Zulkefly intends to boost the development of national football by intensifying talent search programs throughout the country.

“Hopefully in the future, we will be able to produce more talents like Safawi Rasid, Azizol Abu Haniffah and the late Mokhtar Dahari through a more systematic football development program,” said the Secretary of the Football Association of Royal Malaysian Police.

Finally, Abdul Aziz Yeop Jamaludin is not a newbie in the FAM leadership as he served as an Exco some time ago. However, he has testified saying that he has never had the opportunity to work with the current President, Datuk Haji Hamidin Mohd Amin.

“I used to occupy the Exco seat, but I have never had the opportunity to serve with the current president. I want to contribute through my experience with FAM and feel that Datuk Haji Hamidin is the best individual to take the national football to a higher level through the F: 30 plan,” said the Vice President of the Perak Football Association (PAFA).

On February 27, FAM confirmed a total of 17 candidates were eligible to contest in filling the eight Exco seats offered in the FAM Executive Committee for the 2021-2025 term. The contest is scheduled to take place along with the FAM Congress on the 13th of March 2021.
