22 Sep JDT NAME SULTAN IBRAHIM STADIUM STAND AFTER LUCIANO FIGUEROA
Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) have named a section of the seating area at the state-of-the-art Sultan Ibrahim Stadium after manager Luciano Figueroa, who had a blistering career as a player with the Southern Tigers before retiring in 2018.
The Luciano Figueroa Stand is the first fans section to be named at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, which opened doors in February 2020. The Stand was officiated by club owner HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Crown Prince of Johor on Tuesday. Also in attendance was Argentinean Ambassador to Malaysia H.E Manuel Balaguer Salas.
“JDT are a club that always recognises those that have contributed to Johor Football — past present and future. We have always appreciated players, coaches and staff who have served and created history with JDT,” said HRH Tunku Ismail.
“Today, we recognise the contribution of our former player and current manager Luciano Figueroa, who won multiple trophies — including the historic moment of being the first East Asian side to win the AFC Cup. His name will forever be imprinted in this stadium.”
Figueroa joined JDT in 2014 and enjoyed two spells as a player, scoring 43 goals and assisting 14 in 71 games.
The former Argentine international won two Malaysia Super League titles (2014 & 2015), 2015 Sultan Ahmad Shah Cup and the coveted 2015 AFC Cup in his first spell before returning as Club Ambassador in 2017.
He donned the Red & Blue jersey once more in 2018 to win his second Sultan Ahmad Shah Cup and third Super League title.
He was named JDT Manager in August 2018. Figueroa has won two Sultan Ahmad Shah Cups (2019 & 2020), 2019 Super League and 2019 Malaysia Cup to date as manager.
