Jin Wei aims to shine on home soil

National women’s singles shuttler, Goh Jin Wei is ready to challenge for the upcoming Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2018 (CAMO2018) title. The 18-year-old reiterated that she is not participating merely to gain experience when she goes up against the best players in the world during Malaysia’s premier badminton tournament which will be held from June 26 – July 1 at Axiata Arena, KL Sports City.

Jin Wei believes she has had enough opportunities to learn and gain as much knowledge from previous international tournaments and feels that it is time to actually challenge for titles.

“So far, preparations for the Malaysia Open are going well. My fitness levels have also improved tremendously based on last week’s assessment, and I am certain that I will be ready for the tournament.”

“I have gained plenty of experiences from past tournaments and always train to improve my game from my mistakes. I feel that the Malaysia Open will be the perfect platform for me to show my capabilities and record a good result,” added the former world junior champion.

Jin Wei however is not setting any targets as she is solely focused on winning one match at a time and not worrying about her potential opponents.

She said, “I do not want to place a specific target and mainly want to perform at my very best to win every match at each stage no matter who I meet.”

She also hopes that the entire Malaysian squad will receive a resounding support from the local fans.

“Since this is our home ground and it presents some sort of an advantage, I am pumped to give my best for all Malaysians. My teammates and I are looking forward to a packed arena from the first rounds right up till the finals,” she concluded.

First up for the world no. 31 ranked player in the first round is Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po who is currently ranked no. 21 in the world.
