The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) are expected to send a contingent comprising 370 athletes and 120 officials for the Laos SEA Games, held from Dec 9-18. OCM Honorary secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said the list by numbers had already been sent to the Laos SEA Games Technical committee recently while the final name list would be send on Oct 26. "The smaller number of athletes is due to Malaysia athletes competing in only 21 of the 25 sports contested," Kok Chi told Bernama here on Tuesday. Malaysian athletes would feature in swimming, diving, archery, athletics, badminton, snooker & billiard, boxing, cycling,...

Dear YAM Tunku, The OCM's victorious office bearers seem to have taken a new approach to Olympic ideals and ethics, judging from the contents of the OCM Highlights posted on 7th June 09. I am totally disappointed. Olympism says "accept victory with humility" not "humiliate the losers - and if needs be use generalisations and half-truths to achieve your objective" OCM talks about people bad-mouthing, lying , slandering, and making disparaging remarks against incumbent office-bearers. But people in sport know that it was certain high profile OCM officials who were doing this. There are even written materials, e-mails and media releases to this effect,...

I was having a chat with Rev.Joe Marcose, it was a long conversation so much so the battery went dead. I have known Joe, for close to 12 years now.. I have known him as sports editor, media officer, pastor and now a blogger. I must say he is a fine man who upholds principals and values, no one can ever accuse him of benefiting for himself, he has never asked anything for him or his family, he trusts the lord and lives a life that is 100 percent dependable on GOD. Unlike some, who will even sell their soul for...

IN 2006 I graduated with an MBA from Monash University, during the two year program I studied about succession planning and talent management (Human Resource Management module). I have always tried to relate this back to the sporting environment in this country. Sadly both National Sports Council (NSC) and Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) have their their own views on the above matter. WHO is being groomed to take over the "GOOD WORK" that is done or being done by NSC Director General Datuk Zolkples Embong or for that matter OCM secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi. Do this two association have...

Former Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim on Thursday openly expressed his support for Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad in vying for the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president post. He said Ibrahim, an OCM vice-president, was a qualified and capable leader for the No. 2 post, now held by Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan. "I've known him (Ibrahim) as an experienced hand in leading sports bodies and also in getting sponsorship for sports," Shahidan, who is also the president of the Malaysia Amateur Athletics Union (MAAU), told Bernama here Thursday. Shahidan who is contesting the OCM president post, said Ibrahim was also...

The Malaysian Amateur Athletics Union's (MAAU) executive board has given its deputy president Karim Ibrahim a mandate to discuss the status of its president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim who is expected to contest for the post of Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president. MAAU deputy president Karim Ibrahim said the decision was made during the MAAU executive board meeting last Saturday. "Although we had initially nominated him for the contest, we (MAAU) want to know whether he was firm on the decision. If he decides to contest, we will back him," he told Bernama when contacted Tuesday. Shahidan who is also president of...
