13 Apr Viper Challenge raises the bar
The Viper Challenge – Asia’s largest and most grueling obstacle event – is poised to raise the benchmark for obstacle course racing in this region on Saturday (April 14) as participants tackle a tough course in the world’s first tunnel obstacle event, the Viper Tunnel Challenge.
Always at the forefront of innovative obstacles and exciting venues, Viper Tunnel Challenge presents a brand new challenge that will test the physical and mental fitness of all competitors as the event will be held inside the world’s longest multi-purpose tunnel – the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) – for the first time ever.
Popularly known as SMART, the project was initiated by the Federal Government to alleviate the flooding problem in Kuala Lumpur’s city centre. SMART will play host to the second Viper Challenge series this year after Viper Arena Penang at the Batu Kawan Stadium last month.
The iconic SMART, which is 9.7km long, will offer fitness freaks an unique, exciting and unforgettable experience as participants battle their way to the finish line after overcoming a total of 10 obstacles covering a distance of 8.4km.
In partnership with the Malaysian Highway Authority (also known as the Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia), participants will start their run at Berjaya Times Square before heading towards SMART where the real challenge of maneuvering obstacles in the dark and in an enclosed space begins.
With the first batch of runners expected to be flagged off at 1am, participants will have a chance to view the magnificent and impressive backdrop of Kuala Lumpur city’s skyline at night which overlooks a unique piece of infrastructure – a combined stormwater and motorway tunnel.
“We are very proud of the work and preparations done to host the world’s first ever tunnel obstacle event. This has been a passion project two years in the making and we are truly excited to see it all come together this weekend,” said Selva Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Original Bootcamp Sdn Bhd – the brains behind the Viper Challenge.
“Every year we come up with something bigger, bolder and more challenging. I hope this tunnel challenge will provide a one of a kind experience for all participants. The health and fitness of everyone is important to us, so we hope that through physical challenges like this, we can create a more balanced lifestyle especially for those with a busy work schedule,” added Selva.
Viper Challenge – voted among the top 10 obstacle events in the world – will ensure the importance of teamwork once again take precedence as participants must work together to overcome all the obstacles and complete the course to earn a medal and t-shirt.
For those who will miss the Viper Tunnel Challenge, they can still make the next stop of the Viper Challenge series at Sunway Iskandar, Johor on May 5, 2018 before it moves to the majestic Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Aug 18, 2018.
